Help for Haiti from the Fitness Industry

Last month, I blogged about efforts by Healthworks Fitness Centers for Women, Boston, to raise funds for Haiti after the recent earthquake there. Since then, I’ve read about efforts by other clubs and companies in the industry. I thought I’d offer kudos to each for their efforts and encourage you to let me know if you are also doing something for Haiti.

Town Sports International (TSI), New York, is donating $20,000 to the American Red Cross to help Haitian communities. In addition, some individual Sports Club locations will host in-club events to raise more funds, and employees can donate via payroll deductions.

Crunch, New York, has partnered with Soles4Souls: Project Haiti Relief to donate shoes, collecting shoes at all 19 Crunch locations. Soles4Souls is working with partners such as Crunch to provide one million pairs of shoes to help survivors begin the rebuilding process and to offer them footwear to protect them from the broken glass, twisted metal and raw sewage left after the earthquake.

Power Systems Inc., Knoxville, TN, is giving customers the opportunity to participate with the company in contributing money to the American Red Cross for Haitian relief efforts. During the next few weeks, Power Systems will donate $2 from every order to the American Red Cross Haiti Relief and Development fund. In addition to the corporate donation, employees at Power Systems made additional contributions directly to the American Red Cross. The company also will donate close to 200 exercise mats to Love A Child Inc. for use in orphanages and shelters for bedding.

Make sure to comment on this blog if your club is doing something to help Haiti.
